In AANJIBIMAADIZING: A CHANGE OF LIFE, Emily Kewageshig unveils an intimate exploration of transformation and the cyclical nature of existence. This collection of paintings reflects the constant shifts we experience throughout our lives—each transition an opportunity for growth and renewal. Her work is deeply rooted in the understanding that we are all in a perpetual state of becoming. Drawing on her personal experiences and teachings, Kewageshig’s work embodies the idea that we can live many lives in one lifetime as we navigate constant change. Through vibrant colours, intricate patterns, and symbolic forms, the works in this exhibition encourage introspection, prompting viewers to look inward as they embrace their own transformations.

The title, AANJIBIMAADIZING, meaning “a change of life” in Anishinaabemowin, serves as a powerful reminder that transformation is not just a personal journey, but a collective experience, one that is guided by the teachings of animals, the land, and our ancestors who walk with us.
